Merry Christmas!

, originally uploaded by tomo.ono.

Cooper LOVED opening his presents on Christmas morning. He was really good at ripping off the paper. The, when he would see the toy inside he would say, "OHHHH!!!" It was completely adorable. He also carried all the presents from the tree to the right person and helped Mommy, Daddy, and Uncle Efrem open their gifts. After opening his presents Cooper got to indulge in a very important Lirtzman Family tradition....Egg Nog French Toast! YUM! Cooper got to spend some time playing with his new toys...his Thomas Train set and his Handy Manny Tool Box were the favorites. Later in the day, we all went to Columbus to celebrate with the whole family at Uncle Ethan and Aunt Bonnie's awesome new house!

"Santa's Little Helper"

, originally uploaded by tomo.ono.

Cooper amazed us by wanting to help put together the tree, string the lights, and hang the ornaments. He carried heavy branches, walked the lights around the tree and brought mommy ornaments from the boxes. He was very careful and got so much satisfaction from being a good helper! It was so much fun!

Japanese Puerto Rican Jew Baby

, originally uploaded by tomo.ono.

As I enjoy telling people, Cooper is a wonderful example of the American "melting pot." 50% Japanese, 25% Puerto Rican, 25% Russian Jew. Even at 17 months old he seems to have a profound understanding and respect for his unique heritage..I guess that's why he, entirely on his own, chose to wander the house in his Tokyo sweatshirt carrying the Menorah in one hand and the Christmas tree star in the other!

Thanksgiving Tradition

, originally uploaded by tomo.ono.

Every male in the Lirtzman family since Efrem has been laid on the turkey platter on their first Thanksgiving. This year, we tried to get a nice shot of Efrem, 24 years later, and his 3 young nephews...well, we got a picture. I'm sure someday we'll get them all looking at the camera and smiling..or at least not trying to escape. :)

Veteran's Day with Emily!

, originally uploaded by tomo.ono.

A little late posting this, but I think it's worth sharing!

On Veteran's Day, my niece, Emily, invited us to her school's assembly. It was wonderful! Each grade sang one of the songs for each branch of the military. Emily sang the Army song this year. She did very well! There were pictures and readings and all kinds of special things. Cooper had fun getting to see where Cousin Emily goes to school!

Family Photos

DSC_6775, originally uploaded by tomo.ono.

We tried to get some nice family photos. We went to a local park with friends of ours and took a few snaps. There were a few good ones and maybe it'll make it to a Holiday card. Cooper was a lot more interested in running around though...

First Trick or Treat

DSC_6702, originally uploaded by tomo.ono.

Cooper went on his first ever Trick or Treat around his friend's neighborhood. He was dressed in a homemade costume that Mommy and Daddy made. Can you guess what he is?
He was a little shy of all the costumed people but he eventually went to each house and grabbed a candy out of the bowl. He made great choices (for mom and dad) and carried his little pumpkin bag the entire way.
All in all, it was a great Halloween!!

New Hat

DSC_6628, originally uploaded by tomo.ono.

Cooper just got a new hat and he's in love with it. He gets compliments everywhere he goes and he won't take it off even at daycare. Maybe we'll get him a baby tux and it can be his Halloween costume.

Mama's Twenty-...

DSC_6613, originally uploaded by tomo.ono.

We celebrated mama's birthday with dada's amazing spread of tempura and a whole bunch of great friends. Cooper didn't eat any of the tempura but still had fun with everyone. Mama got a crazy present from dada and she was in shock. Oh well, I'll just wait until she's board with it and then it will be mine!!

Great Grandma

DSC_6570, originally uploaded by tomo.ono.

Great Grandma Anno was visiting Minnesota so we decided to go see her. Cooper had such a wonderful time with her. We all visited the Mall of America, ate lots of great home cooked meal, and of course watched football.

Michigan Stadium

DSC_6385, originally uploaded by tomo.ono.

Cooper FINALLY got to experience The Big House. We went on a tour and it was incredible! We got to see the locker rooms...Cooper tried on a helmet and thought it was so cool! Then we went to check out the new special section seats and suites they put in. They were really nice...but the suites just didn't feel like Michigan Stadium. THEN...Cooper got to go down the tunnel and onto the field!!!! He ran all over the place, scored a few touchdowns, practiced tackling, took a few snaps....he tried it all! And he loved it! It was a wonderful time and we're so glad we got to share it with Cooper!!!! :-D

Matthew and the Alien PJs

DSC_6287
DSC_6287, originally uploaded by tomo.ono.

Cooper's "cousin" Matthew came over to play Friday night! He was a little unhappy that his Mommy and Daddy left, but he enjoyed his Japanese dinner and playing with Cooper (once we got him in his pjs and gave him his paci!). It turns out that both boys have the same super cool alien pajamas...so of course, they had to match. Could they be any more adorable?!?!?

Is this my new room?!?

DSC_6201, originally uploaded by tomo.ono.

Cooper got to see what it's like to be a turtle when we went to the Boonshoft Museum last weekend. He also, played with legos, went grocery shopping, learned about recycling, learned how things are made, and generally ran around and had fun. He's growing so much every day, and we're having a blast watching him! Cooper is just becoming such a smart and fun little boy...how did we get so lucky?!?

Add it to the list...

DSC_6186, originally uploaded by tomo.ono.

...of strange things Cooper will eat. He bit right into a Rhubarb. Yes, rhubarb. Not even sure what to say.... :)

Wait...Where's COOPER?!?

DSC_6104, originally uploaded by tomo.ono.

Mommy and Daddy have been hesitant to leave Cooper in the care of others...we miss him too much! It took something VERY BIG and VERY IMPORTANT to get us to leave him for 2 whole nights. MICHIGAN FOOTBALL!!! Tomo and I went to Ann Arbor for the Wolverines home opener...and it felt really good to be back in the Big House! Michigan looks like they're actually going to have a team this year. And, to top it all off...Cooper had a great weekend with Uncle Efrem, Grandpa, and Susie...but he still gave me a huge grin and a giant hug when we got home. :) We've got tickets for 4 more games...I think we might try this arrangement again. In a few years, Cooper can come with us to the game!!!

At the zoo with Grandpa!

DSC_6003, originally uploaded by tomo.ono.

Cooper finally got to go see all the animals we read about in his books! Last weekend we went down to the Cincinnati Zoo with Grandpa, Uncle Efrem, and Susie. Cooper saw elephants, giraffes, monkeys, bears (we actually mistook Uncle Efrem for a rare breed of bear...maybe he should shave?), lions, tigers, birds, and much much more! Cooper was fascinated and did really well. He didn't get scared at all and even helped feed one of the giraffes. I think we'll definitely be going back to the zoo!

My New Ears

DSC_5986, originally uploaded by tomo.ono.

Well, after about 5 too many ear infections, Cooper finally got tubes! He did incredibly well with the surgery. He was a little sleepy and didn't want to wake up right away, but once he did, he just rested with Mommy and Daddy and had a snack. And he was in a wonderful mood the entire day! He didn't even mind wearing cotton balls in his ears during bath time. :)

Oishii!!!

DSC_5981, originally uploaded by tomo.ono.

Delicious! Obachama and Ojichama (Granma and Grandpa Ono) sent us a big box full of wonderful Japanese treats! Cooper might not look very Japanese on the outside, but he definitely has a Japanese stomach! He has eaten almost every Japanese food we've given him!

I don't have time to take pictures--there's too much to see!

DSC_5924, originally uploaded by tomo.ono.

Last summer we went to Cox Metropark several times to get some fresh air and wander around. We hadn't been yet this summer, so we decided to go last weekend. Cooper had so much fun! He really enjoyed the butterfly house! He watched them fly, looked at caterpillars, and generally wanted to see everything. He was walking all over the place!

First Try at Chopsticks

DSC_5876, originally uploaded by tomo.ono.

Well, Cooper, being a very smart little boy, watches Mommy and Daddy very carefully. So, he full understands that chopsticks are utensils just like his forks and spoons. He wanted to try his own set! We have to work with him to understand a little better what kinds of food they are most practical for...but he did manage to get some yogurt into his mouth via the chopstick!

Looking Cool on His New Wheels

DSC_5862, originally uploaded by tomo.ono.

Cooper received a Michigan tricycle from his uncle Yoshi and aunt Mai Yia. He's still a little small for it but he didn't mind taking a ride around the neighborhood on it. He didn't show much emotion but since he wasn't screaming, it must of been fun!

Birthday Party!!

DSC_5638, originally uploaded by tomo.ono.

So it's late but we wanted to post this. Cooper had his Birthday party on the 18th of July at the clubhouse that our neighborhood owns. We had so many of his friends over and it was quite a success. We brought many of Cooper's toys out so the little ones can play with them while the adults ate and mingled.
Cooper had a special cake made by a local cakery and had a blast eating it.
Thank you everyone for such a wondergul day.

1st Birthday!

Birthday Cake!, originally uploaded by tomo.ono.

Cooper is one years old!! We can't believe he's already reached this milestone. We had a little birthday party and he got to eat his first birthday cake. He also got a few exciting presents such as a Michigan football jersey and a talking Mickey Mouse. We're planning a bigger birthday party on Sunday but this was a nice little party to celebrate his anniversary.

The 4th of July--take 2!

DSC_5504, originally uploaded by tomo.ono.

On the 5th of July, we went to the 4th of July parade in Centerville with Matthew and his mom and dad. Cooper had a blast! He waved and smiled and watched all of the neat floats, bands, cars, and lots of other neat things go by. He loved standing up to wave and sitting on the curb watching the parade go by. We decided not to do fireworks this year...but I think next year, Cooper will be ready!

The 4th of July!

DSC_5462, originally uploaded by tomo.ono.

Cooper's first 4th of July was a lot of fun! We went for a walk in the park, played on the playground, and then went to his friend Matthew's for a cookout! Cooper and Matthew got along very well. They shared toys and even went for a swim in Matthew's pool.

There He Goes!!!

There He Goes, originally uploaded by tomo.ono.

COOPER DID IT! He walked across our living room from the couch to the coffee table! He is getting more and more sturdy and balanced every time he walks. And his is very proud of himself! :) The voices you here, other than me, are Shannon and Kayu. We were video chatting to welcome Kayu home from Afghanistan (YAY!) and Cooper wanted to show them what he could do! Unfortunately Miss Charlotte was asleep, but he'll show her soon. :)

My Miss Staci

DSC_5348, originally uploaded by tomo.ono.

Cooper has been a very lucky little boy and has some wonderful teachers who he adores...but he had a particular love for Miss Staci and let me tell you it is mutual! :) Miss Staci is staying home with her kids this summer so Cooper hasn't seen her in weeks! Yesterday, we met up to play for a little while. Cooper got some good Miss Staci cuddles. :) AND he got to show Miss Staci AND Miss Allison (another one of his wonderful teachers who came along too!) how he's such a big boy and working hard on walking! :-D

Hard at Work

DSC_5319, originally uploaded by tomo.ono.

Cooper and our friend Joey got to play at Young's Dairy during my office's summer picnic. They particularly enjoyed shoveling corn, going down the slide, and playing with the corn hole set (they actually put the bean bags into the holes!). :)

Down...and Up...and Down...and Up! :)

Stairs, originally uploaded by tomo.ono.

Cooper has mastered the stairs. He's actually managed to do the whole flight! He's pretty steady and knows how he needs to set his feet. Such a big boy!

A fish...IN water!

DSC_5297, originally uploaded by tomo.ono.

Cooper seems to have completely forgotten how much he disliked the pool in MT! We decided to go for a quick swim when we got home from Ann Arbor. He had a blast splashing, and kicking, and swimming! I think it is going to be a great summer!

Checking out North Campus

DSC_5258, originally uploaded by tomo.ono.

Cooper had an awesome time climbing all over the Wave Field behind the FXB (the aerospace engineering department where Mommy amd Daddy went to school!) . The field was designed by the lady who created the Vietnam War Memorial in DC. The waves are supposed to look like sine and cosine waves. I tried to explain what sine and cosine are to Cooper...but he didn't seem very interested. HOWEVER, he climbed, crawled, and rolled all over the place! He seemed to enjoy North Campus... :)

How can you have babies already??...you're my cadets!

DSC_5161, originally uploaded by tomo.ono.

While we were in Ann Arbor we visited the Szumkos! Christine was one of our AFROTC instructors. This was the first time she got to meet Cooper and Charlotte. We had a lot of fun playing with legos and catching up.

Hanging out in the Diag

DSC_5189, originally uploaded by tomo.ono.

Cooper and Charlotte also got to hang out in the Diag for a while. We're pretty sure that even though the kiss is binding, they won't fail their first exams even though they did touch the M....neither of them technically "walked" on it!

Tradition

DSC_5173, originally uploaded by tomo.ono.

At Michigan, there is a tradition: kiss under the Engineering Arch and you are destined to get married. Well, why wait? Cooper and Charlotte had their first kiss right there in the middle of the arch. Expect invitations in 22-25 years. :) I suppose we should include the disclaimer that Charlotte's father, Kayu, was blissfully unaware of what we were doing... :)

$9.30!

DSC_5065, originally uploaded by tomo.ono.

Cooper was very excited to visit Church Hill Downs and was even more thrilled that he actually got to see a race. We let him do just a small wager, and he is such a lucky little boy that his pick (horse #6...no idea what it's name was) actually won the race! Cooper won a whole $9.30! But more importantly, he got to see all of the horses and jockeys and just had a lot of fun!

Science is FUN!

DSC_5007, originally uploaded by tomo.ono.

Cooper got to go to the Louisville Science Museum! He played with dominoes, built a robot, learned about the human body, and watched an IMAX about the Hubble space telescope. He particularly liked knocking down rows of dominoes after Daddy stood them all up!

Is the bat big, or are we just small?

DSC_4962, originally uploaded by tomo.ono.

Both I suppose. :) We went to visit the Louisville Slugger factory and museum! Cooper got to see how the bats used by professional baseball players are made and learn about the history of baseball bats. He even got to bring a bat (more his size) home with him!

Mom, do I know that kid???

DSC_4938, originally uploaded by tomo.ono.

It had been a few months since Cooper last saw Maddi, but after this initial, "Who is that?!?" moment, they had a blast together all weekend! They shared their toys and snacks, and they kept each other entertained at every meal.

Just cute.

DSC_4911, originally uploaded by tomo.ono.

Sometimes Cooper does things that are unexpected and completely adorable. The other day he did not want to be snuggled in our traditional going to bed hold..he wanted to sit next to me and rock. He fell asleep right there snuggled next to me, sitting up. :)

Are you SURE I'm ready to be a big boy???

DSC_4905, originally uploaded by tomo.ono.

Cooper survived his first week and a Cuddly Cub! It wasn't smooth sailing, but I can't blame him...he had such an awesome time as a Honey Bunny he just didn't want to move on! He had a rough time letting mommy and daddy go and was a finicky eater. But he was doing much better as the week progressed and I'm sure that he'll be running around in the chaos with all of the other toddlers before we know it!

Eating with a Fork

Eating with a Fork, originally uploaded by tomo.ono.

Cooper keeps growing up and learning new things. Friday was his last day in his class and Monday he moves up to the big kids club. As if to commemorate this event, he decided to learn to eat food from a fork by himself. He got such enjoyment out of it when he did it, it was fun to watch.

All Better

DSC_4832, originally uploaded by tomo.ono.

It's been a while since we posted. It's because Cooper's been sick for a few weeks and as new parents, we were figuring out how to help him out.
So he went in three weeks ago for an ear infection in one ear. He got Amoxicilin and we thought we'd be good. Then he stopped eating solid food and started to be very clingy. After a week, he was still the same so we took him in to pediatrics again. This time he had ear infections in both ears! So we got Augmentin, another antibiotic. After a week, he got worse so we went in to pediatrics again. It was about the same so they told us to keep giving the mdedicine.
On Thursday, he started having fevers and on Saturday it was so high we took him to the ER. At the ER, they told us the Antibiotics we were giving him were useless so we need to move on to Rocephin, shots in the thigh for three days in a row.
So the next three days, he went in to the ER and got shots in both thighs every time. That was supposed to be it but with the antibiotics, he got diarrhea and that caused MAJOR diaper rashes and he went in to the ER yet again.
Now he is finally getting better and going back to his engineering studies...j/k but he is eating more and playing more and it is such a relief.
So... if anyone needs advice on ER's with babies, ear infections, butt rashes and lack of appetite, let us know.

Birthplace of Neil Armstrong :)

DSC_4723, originally uploaded by tomo.ono.

Some parents want their kids to see all 50 states, or visit all of the national parks. My mother made sure I saw just about every antique store on the east coast. What do I want to pass on to Cooper? Air and Space Museums. :) Saturday we traveled to the little known hometown of Neil Armstrong--Wapakoneta, OH. Cooper got to see space suites, memorabilia, and the actual Gemini VIII spacecraft that was piloted by Neil Armstrong (also aboard was Dave Scott...a UoM alum!)!!! I don't think it is a coincidence that my son was born in Ohio and within a week of the 40th anniversary of the first moon landing.... :-D

Just like Daddy...uh oh...

DSC_4702, originally uploaded by tomo.ono.

Mommy came home the other day to find Cooper sitting on the floor with Daddy's video game controller, pushing buttons and looking at the TV. There are lots of wonderful ways I want Cooper to be just like his Daddy...video game playing, however, is NOT one of them. :-P

Happy Birthday, Grandpa Alan!!!

DSC_4660, originally uploaded by tomo.ono.

Mother's Day was ALSO, very very important because it was Grandpa Alan's 60th birthday!!!! Cooper got to go with Grandpa to find a very special GeoCache called "60 Years Young." He was able to go off roading into the forest in his jogging stroller and watch Grandpa climb VERY HIGH in a tree to get a clue! Cooper can't wait until he can climb trees with Grandpa (if Mommy lets him...)!!! :)

Mother's Day

DSC_4626, originally uploaded by tomo.ono.

Even though Daddy felt the need to tell Mommy, "Why am I supposed to do something? You're not MY mother?" Cooper did an excellent job on our first Mother's Day. :) First he made me a wonderful picture at school. THEN, he got me an adorable card, wrote a sweet note, and put a gift card for DSW inside. What a smart boy. He knows the way to Mommy's heart...purses and shoes. :)

My First Big Boy Meal

DSC_4612, originally uploaded by tomo.ono.

Cooper is doing such an amazing job with big boy foods that on Friday night, we decided to try a baby food-free dinner! he had peas and a grilled cheese! He picked everything up by himself and put it right in his mouth!!!

Straight A's!!!

DSC_4609, originally uploaded by tomo.ono.

We had a parent teacher conference the other day. Cooper finished the "Level I Infant Curriculum" in March with Straight A's!!! That means he Always demonstrated each of the skills they were looking for. He's already flying through Level II. His teacher is very impressed with his progress and they think he is going to be ready to move onto the next classroom very soon...maybe even before his first birthday! I'll be sure to keep the report for his Michigan class of 2031 application. :)

My friend, Joey!

DSC_4601, originally uploaded by tomo.ono.

Last Sunday, Cooper's friend, Joey, came over to play. They played with all of Cooper's toys and had so much fun. Everyone really loved bubble time!!! :-D

Feeding Himself

Feeding Himself - Computer, originally uploaded by tomo.ono.

Are these all for ME???

Cooper, loves eating anything we're eating...so he did get to have a pancake, but no blueberry syrup quite yet. :)

Expert Crawler

DSC_4565, originally uploaded by tomo.ono.

Cooper has definitely found independence in his mobility. He had so much fun today at Gymboree! He crawled around to the other kids, to the balls, to Gymbo the clown...and he crawled through all the tunnels! After class, he took off across the room. He'd spotted a ball inside the really long tunnel from clear across the room! He went right over, got the ball and crawled all the way through the tunnel. Then, he turned around and came back the other way! He went back and forth, up and down the tunnel 4 or 5 times and wasn't hampered at all by it's wiggles and rolls! He's amazing! :-D

This looks Yummy...

DSC_4502, originally uploaded by tomo.ono.

Yes, that handful of mulch did go in his mouth. Cooper has now officially eaten dirt. And he's still alive to tell the tale so I guess we can relax. :) We took a trip to the park to get some fresh air...Cooper went on the slide and the swings as well as standing all over the place to practice his balance and riding on a pony and a dinosaur!
